Are you ready for e-Prescribing?
Part 2

Changes to Commonwealth legislation from 31 October 2019 now recognise an electronic prescription as a legal form authorising medicines supply.

Patients will soon be able to use a fully electronic prescription as an alternative to paper prescriptions, providing greater flexibility and convenience that is expected in today’s digital world.

MedAdvisor is committed to supporting you every step of the way, ensuring your pharmacy maximises the opportunities that e-Prescribing will bring, including medication delivery.

What you should know about ePrescriptions(1)
  • Electronic prescriptions and paper prescriptions will co-exist. Patients will be able to choose an electronic or paper version of a prescription, but not both for the same script
  • If an electronic prescription is requested, the patient may choose to receive a token, or have the prescription added to their Active Script List.
  • Electronic prescribing will continue to support a patient’s right to choose their preferred pharmacy
  • MedAdvisor will allow the patient to view and manage their electronic prescription(s) and forward them to their chosen pharmacy for dispensing.
  • A community pharmacy may receive requests for prescription supply in the following forms
- Paper prescription (as per current state)
- Evidence of prescription – token in paper form
- Token presented on mobile device
- Token received electronically (eg token sent to pharmacy via MedAdvisor)
- Active script list

MedAdvisor is working hard behind the scenes, along the other software providers, to develop the technical support to enable full implementation of ePrescriptions.

Over 1 million Australians trust MedAdvisor as their digital prescription solution

Although the introduction of ePrescriptions is a significant change, MedAdvisor has been digitising prescriptions since 2013.

Over the past 6 years, Australian patients have digitally ordered more than 25 million scripts via the MedAdvisor platform, with survey data showing that 87% of users have enjoyed the benefits of this(2).

The popular Snap-and-Send feature allows patients to take a photo of their new or repeat script and send it to the pharmacy.

MedAdvisor is a leader in digital prescription solutions, and as a MedAdvisor network pharmacy, you are in the leading position to maximise the opportunities that ePrescriptions will bring.

The best way to prepare for ePrescrptions is to continue promoting MedAdvisor to all your patients so they can enjoy the benefits of digital script management and ordering immediately.

Once ePrescriptions are fully implemented, your patients will already be digitally connected to your pharmacy via MedAdvisor and have everything they need for an easy transition.

To further improve the patient experience, Pay In Advance will soon be enabled for all patients

Both patients and pharmacies have provided very positive feedback about this feature, with early data showing pay in advance orders have an average basket size of 2.2 items and an average value of >$38.00.

“The new pay in advance feature of the MedAdvisor app has relieved the pharmacy staff of stress at the till and has freed up time for our customers to enquire with our staff about their prescriptions and any health concerns! Pay in advance has allowed our pharmacy to retain new loyal patients who are impressed by the efficiency of clicking to collect their prescriptions.” – Laura, Pharmacist at Forbutt’s Keppel Street Pharmacy
