Introducing Carer Mode for MedAdvisor

MedAdvisor are proud to announce the launch of v2.1. This version will include a brand new feature, Carer Mode. Carer Mode allows a primary user to manage the medications of multiple family members, or for carers to assist others, even if they do not live with them. This is achieved by extending MedAdvisor’s existing functionality to other members of the family, allowing a primary user to check the supply remaining of a medication, review repeat script information and Tap-To-Refill from their Favourite Pharmacy.

Availability

MedAdvisor v2.1, incorporating Carer Mode, is available to consumers through the Apple App and Google Play Store. There is no need for pharmacies to upgrade their MedAdvisor Pharmacy Console.

Existing users wishing to add a family member, or person they care for, into their existing MedAdvisor profile, will be able to do so through the Carer Mode menu found within the Settings section of the patient application.

New users wishing to take advantage of MedAdvisor and its many benefits, simply need to create a new account, in the usual manner. Once the primary account has been created, then additions are handled as described above. Please note that a pharmacy issued activation code will be required for all users, including primary account holders and their connected users.

Primary users can only use Carer Mode to add new MedAdvisor accounts. There may be situations when two existing MedAdvisor users wish to manage their profiles through a single account. This feature will be available in the coming months.

Functionality

The patient application user interface will remain largely unchanged except for the addition of the Carer Mode icon and names of connected patients; these will appear below the personalised notification bar within the patient application.

The prescription medications of each person will be separated and labelled accordingly. The Medicine Details, Scripts & Repeats and Current Supply sections will remain unchanged. The Tap-To-Refill feature requires that all connected patients share the primary account holders Favourite Pharmacy.

There will be no change to the MedAdvisor Pharmacy Console; Tap-To-Refill orders of connected patients will appear separately.

Please Note: Primary MedAdvisor accounts may be shared, and accessed simultaneously on multiple devices; simply use the username (email) and password on each device to log in. This feature may be useful for a husband and wife, who each have their own smartphone but share an email address.

Consent

The generation of an activation code will ultimately result in ongoing access to a patient's medication history. Therefore, activation codes must only be generated after appropriate consent is obtained. It is the pharmacist's responsibility to ensure that valid consent has been obtained from the patient for whom they are generating an activation code. Activation codes must not be generated until valid consent is sought. To assist pharmacies in collecting appropriate consent MedAdvisor have published the Carer Mode Consent Form which can be printed and completed for use in the pharmacy. The new Carer Mode Consent Form can be accessed via the link at the bottom of the MedAdvisor Home screen within MedAdvisor. Click here to download this form.

The use of the Carer Mode Consent Form is not required in the following circumstances:

  1. Parents or legal guardians seeking activation codes for children in their care who are under the age of 16 year; or
  2. When the patient for whom the activation code is being generated is present in the pharmacy and their identity can be verified.
